What makes a great leader? Is leadership something you are born with or is it something you pick up as you go along? There are many definitions of leadership as well as many many examples of leadership that many of us wonder, “Am I am leader?”
Research shows that leaders are learners. They learn from their mistakes as well as their success. Leaders are also visionaries as they must keep the organization pointed north at all times and they must keep their eyes on the horizon in search of that goal for the organization. Leaders enable others to act and model the way to be within the organization. Leaders encourage the heart of followers to carry on when the journey of the vision becomes arduous, long and frustrating. Leaders need to be there for employees when things get tough within the organization. The organization itself must be filled with structure and opportunity to actually achieve goals, organizational and personal because people do not start their work each day with a desire to lose. It is part of the leader’s job to show them that they can win.
Leaders are structured; process oriented, organized, consistent, confident, reliable, forward-looking, credible and philosophical. Are you a leader? Want us to teach you how to become a leader? It is possible.
Think of this scenario: Imagine an organization where everyone working for the organization is a volunteer. Assume that workers are there in the organization because they want to be not because they have to be. What would need to exist for them to want to enlist in such an organization? What would you need to do under those conditions to get workers to perform at high levels? What would you need to do if you wanted workers to remain loyal to you and the organization?
